The product is a pure HTML application designed to run in any standards-based web browser. There are no Active-X, Java, Flash or other proprietary technology used on the client side of the application.

The product allows access to the CrimeNtel criminal intelligence database and the ability to read, write, edit and contribute to the information contained within the database. These capabilities are provided on a user-by-user basis, i.e. not all users have the same access permissions.

Product Goals

1. Allow access to the CrimeNtel database via a standards-based web browser.
2. Centralization of program code to a single web server, easing total cost of ownership and software administration.
3. Allowing access to the CrimeNtel database over low-speed connections such as dial-ups, wireless.
4. Allowing agencies centralized administration of software applications via their LAN/WANs.
5. Provide an easy-to-use graphical user interface to access, edit and add new criminal intelligence data to the CrimeNtel database.
6. Provide a web-based software product that conforms to the internal security model provided by the CrimeNtel for Windows system.
7. Provide a web-based software product that conforms to US Federal guidelines and other international good practices for maintaining criminal intelligence data.
   

Product History
CI Technologies began development of the CrimeNtel web app in November 2000. During the development process the product was continually tested internally and externally on the company's web server connected to the Internet.

CI Technologies contacted several key customers and asked for their input after they tested the web app system. Their input resulted in changes and enhancements to the software.
